My paintings are history paintings, visualizations of the will to deconstruct the world in order to explore reality. We might think that what we perceive is reality, but what we actually see are culturally determined patterns constructed by our consciousness in space and time.

The line constructions in my paintings represent our efforts to deconstruct the world; the landscapes in which they are placed represent its antipode, non-human nature. The contrast between the two poses the question of what the world is and how we put it together.

In this sense, my paintings are also self-portraits: The abstracting self is conscious of the limitations of its deconstructions but it also delights in the beauty of finding solutions to formal problems.
