A summer outing to fish for squid in Maine led Tanya Marcuse to an unexpected photographic project. Made with an iPhone, the images in INK show squid spreading across newspapers, their bodies and dark traces interrupting headlines, advertisements, and announcements. The encounter between living material and printed information creates compositions that are strange, playful, and unsettling. Echoing an illustrated warning about a giant squid from 1566, the book explores how natural forms can obscure and transform the stories through which we organize the world.
