Portent brings together Tanya Marcuse’s staged visions of wonders and omens in the Hudson Valley. Golden snakes, blue fire, blood-red snow, and frozen apples blur the boundaries between what photography records and what imagination makes possible. Drawn from her Book of Miracles project and inspired by a sixteenth-century compendium of extraordinary events, these images reflect a world of environmental uncertainty and upheaval. Published in Nazraeli’s One Picture Book Two series, each numbered copy includes a signed original photograph and a letterpress print.
