Plato's Oven
5/17/2019 – 6/19/2019
This body of work is an homage to Plato, Paraselcus, and Odilon Redon. Fenchel’s paintings are studies of beauty and ancient allegory, and his studio process is a study of personal growth. This micro/macro relationship of practice and theory mirrors that of the alchemist working to raise the vibrations of both material and spirit.
Ryan Fenchel (b. 1981, Chicago, IL) received an MFA in Art Theory & Practice from Northwestern University and a BFA in printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute. He has shown in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Berlin, Sarajevo, and Philadelphia. Recent solo exhibitions have been with The Landing Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Haw Contemporary, Kansas City, MO; and Carrie Secrist, Chicago, IL. Fenchel lives and works in Los Angeles.
